If a student becomes ill at school, he/she should report to the nurse. Students must not leave the building because of illness without authorization. If the nurse is not present, students should report to the office. All students new to Washington Middle School are asked to file an up to date physical examination report with the nurse.
All medicine will be kept by the nurse. All medication (including cough drops) must be brought to school by a parent/guardian. Medication should be marked with the student's name and the directions for administering. All medications shall be in the original container(s) and accompanied by requests signed by parent/guardian. Students who need to take medicine while at school are to make arrangements through the nurse.
Non-prescription pain reliever/fever reducer will not be given to students before 11 a.m. Health Services staff will not give prescribed “narcotic based" medication to students while in attendance or participating in school activities. Since narcotic medications can have adverse effects on a student's ability to participate in school functions, it is suggested that the student remain home while taking such prescribed medication. Students who have been on a narcotic based medication will need a doctor's note to return to school.
